Why a dome crescent needs its own calculation
A minaret is tall and slim, while a dome is a wide mass. The crescent that looks balanced on a minaret can look too small on a large dome, so we calculate the dome finial from the dome diameter, its height above the roof and the viewing distance from the street.
Mosques with both a dome and a minaret usually need two crescents in the same style and colour but different sizes. Matching them makes the mosque read as one complete design.

Fixing a crescent on a curved dome
We shape the base to the top of the dome so it sits firmly, and use corrosion resistant fixings so no rust stains run down the dome surface after a few years.
After installation the crescent is aligned to the qibla, exactly as we do for minaret crescents.
