Minaret crescent: sizes, materials and designs
The minaret crescent is the finishing piece of a mosque and the first thing people see from a distance. This guide explains how to choose the right size, material and design, and what to ask any supplier before you order.

Parts of a minaret crescent
- Crescent
- The open crescent at the top, usually facing the qibla in many mosques.
- Qamara
- The stack of spheres or rings under the crescent that gives each design its character.
- Mast
- Connects the crescent and qamara to the base.
- Base
- Sits on the minaret tip and carries the whole finial.
How to choose the right size
A crescent that looks right on paper can look tiny on a tall minaret, or heavy on a slim one. The right size depends on the minaret height, the diameter of the minaret tip, and the distance people will see the mosque from. We make crescents from 1 m up to 15 m.

Questions to ask any supplier
- Are you the manufacturer?Buying from the factory means no reseller margin and accurate technical answers.
- What is the material thickness?Thin sheet is cheaper but can dent and deform in heat and wind.
- What coating do you use?Ask for UV and salt resistant coating so the colour lasts.
- What fixings are used?Corrosion resistant bolts prevent rust stains on the minaret.
- Is qibla alignment included? It should be measured on site, not guessed.

Frequently asked questions
How do I measure my minaret?
A photo with the approximate height is enough to start. We confirm the dimensions before production.
Can you draw the crescent on my mosque photo?
Yes, so the committee can see the result before production.
What is the smallest size you make?
We start from 1 m, suitable for small domes and prayer rooms.
What is the largest size?
Up to 15 m for landmark minarets.
Can you add lighting?
Yes, LED lighting is planned before production.
Can you replace an old crescent?
Yes, with the same size or a better proportioned one.
Gold, silver or a custom colour?
Gold is the most common finish for minaret crescents because it catches the sun and can be seen from far away. It works especially well on white, beige and stone minarets.
Silver suits modern mosques with grey, glass or metal facades, where gold can look out of place. We can also coat the crescent in a custom colour to match the architecture.
Whatever the colour, the coating should be UV resistant so the crescent keeps its shine for years, and on the coast it should resist salt as well.
Common problems we see on old crescents
A tilted crescent
Usually caused by a base that does not fit the minaret tip, or weak fixings.
Rust stains under the crescent
Ordinary bolts rust in humidity and stain the minaret.
Faded colour
Cheap paint without UV protection fades within a few summers.
Dents and deformation
Thin sheet metal deforms in heat and strong wind.
